Varietal replacement in Water Chestnut through introduction of improved variety ‘Lalgulara’ along with full package of practices. Earlier, farmers were adopted their own package of practices in Water chestnut. The improved package and practices provided to the target farmer includes, application of 300 kg SSP + 80 kg MOP + 60 kg UREA along with cutting treatment with monocrotophos, Spray of tricantonol 250 ml+ monocrotophos 1 litre + tripol 250 ml 50 days after transplanting and control of pests and diseases have helped to increased yield of water chestnut by more than 2-fold.

Selected farmer was practicing rice-wheat cropping system for long back, but considering it a non-profitable farming, his attention drew towards water farming i.e. cultivation of water chestnut and fish culture during 2005-06 in an area of 1 hectare. The farmer approached KVK, Seoni during 2006. Regular monitoring by scientists and effort put by Shri Vilash Tijare resulted in getting bumper harvest of water chestnut during first week of September which was sold at premium price of Rs. 12.00 per kg.
